MAINTENANCE

Tremain Care And Maintenance Instructions

Regular Cleaning:

1. Sweep or vacuum as required to remove loose dust and dirt.

2. Remove foot marks and small spills with damp mop or sponge.

3. Mix regular cleaning solution of 2 ounces Hillyard Re-Juv-Nal+ per gallon of water (1 to 64). Use double bucket or two standard buckets, one containing fresh cleaning solution, the other to receive dirty cleaning solution removed from floor.

4. Apply cleaning solution to floor and agitate with either floor machine and scrubbing brush attachment, or long-handled scrubbing brush. Be especially careful to loosen all dirt in grout joints. Work small areas at a time to keep dirty cleaning solution from drying on floor.

5. Remove all dirty cleaning solution from floor with wet vacuum or autoscrubber.

6. Let floor dry before allowing traffic. Rinsing is not necessary except when floor is being prepared for sealing.

Protecting New Floors:

1. Be sure all tile surfaces are free of grout film.

2. Mix protective coating solution of 1 part Hillyard Super Shine-All to 4 parts water.

3. Mop this protective coating solution over entire floor and let dry.

4. If possible, cover entire floor with building paper or slip-resistant polyethylene sheets.

5. When finally ready to put floor in use, remove protective paper.

Grout Cleaning Problems:

To brighten up white cement joints, scrub the joints vigorously with Comet or Ajax, rinsing thoroughly.

If stubborn stains remain, try a quick application of Clorox or Purex, rinsing thoroughly and following manufacturer's safety precautions.

Discolored Silicone Rubber Grout Film:

1. Carefully puddle undiluted liquid bleach (Clorox or Purex) over discolored joint area. Follow bleach manufacturer's precautions regarding use of rubber gloves and protection of adjacent surfaces.

2. After discolored silicone rubber turns uniformly white, wipe off excess bleach with paper towel or damp sponge.

3. Rinse area thoroughly so no trace of bleach remains.

4. If discoloration remains, use razor blade or knife to cut your discolored joint area for regrouting.

5. Make sure all joints to be regrouted are completely clean and dry.

6. Fill open joints with white silicone rubber (Dow Corning 784 or equivalent).

7. Wet filled joints with clean water from spray bottle or wet sponge.

8. Use finger to shape new joints uniformly.

9. Use cheesecloth pad saturated with denatured alcohol to wipe off all silicone rubber smears from tile surfaces.

10. After 6 hours put floor in service.

Marks on Tile:

Craters - Small crater-shaped holes in the glaze are usually the result of either impact from dropping a heavy object such as a table knife or crushing with a concentrated hard object such as a nail protruding from the heel of a shoe. Although there is no way to restore the damage except by replacing the tile, the objectionable appearance of the body showing through can be minimized by using a felt tip pen to stain the white body the matching color of the glaze.

Dull Cloudy Haze or Spots - When tiles do not have the rich, fresh look they should have and look dull and cloudy all over or in spots, they are:

1. Dirty and need a good cleaning.

2. Smeared with paint and not cleaned off thoroughly.

3. Covered with film of cement grout.

4. Etched by acid either during original grout clean-up, by a strong acid cleaner, or by splashing from acid-type toilet bowl and porcelain cleaners.
